Skyline
An Australian weather app built on the Bureau's own feeds, with a kids mode that changes everything but the forecast. Working title, in internal use.

Real screens from the current build with live Bureau of Meteorology data.

Skyline started with a rule: the Bureau of Meteorology is the source of truth for Australia, so use its official feeds and show its numbers as issued. Days one to seven are the Bureau's. Days eight to sixteen come from an ensemble model, joined without a step at the seam. Days seventeen to thirty are a climatology outlook that labels its own confidence.
Radar is rendered by us: the Bureau's frames are decoded to intensity, drawn on our own basemap with a perceptual ramp, and interpolated between the real five-minute frames so the animation is smooth.
Kids mode is a real design axis, not a skin. It changes the words, the palette, the type size and how much moves, while the forecast underneath stays identical. The app also scores its own forecasts against what actually happened and shows you.
Features
Bureau first
Official precis, observations, warnings and radar from the Bureau's feeds, with attribution.
Thirty days, honestly
Seven days as issued, sixteen from ensembles, thirty with confidence bands. Low confidence is labelled.
Our own radar
Decoded frames, a vector basemap, motion interpolation, and a scrubber that works with a thumb.
Kids and Adult modes
Playful or dry, big or dense. Same numbers either way.
Scores itself
Every forecast is kept and compared with what happened, and the app shows how accurate it has been.
